The unsolved case of a body in a blue plastic bag in the IJ River of Amsterdam has finally been solved after around ten years. The murderer of the wealthy Russian art dealer has been detained by the Dutch Police.
According to a report from the Guardian, on Tuesday, the Dutch police announced that they have arrested a person related to a 2013 wealthy Russian art dealer murder. According to the police, the man is 62 years old, whose DNA matched with traces found on the remains of the art dealer.
This news is a good one for the family of victim Aleksandr Levin, who was killed with his head and limbs severed. He was a wealthy art dealer from Russia’s St Petersburg and he often traveled around the world for art dealing. On his 2013 trip to Amsterdam, he was killed at the age of 65.
On a decade delay in this case, the Dutch police said that they were lacking the victim’s fingerprints or dental records. After the cooperation of Levin’s family, the Dutch police succeeded in matching the victim’s DNA with a relative in Russia. The police did this via the Interpol database of missing people.
The police didn’t disclose the identity of the suspect or the reason behind this murder. However, they called this murder a premeditated killing. They also disclosed that the suspect was living near the location where the body was found.
On this great work by the Dutch police, Levin’s son expressed his thankful notes. He said that he is thankful for the Dutch police’s work and everyone else who contributed to this arrest. He also wanted to know who killed his father and for what reason.
More information, including the suspect’s name and reason for murder, in this case, will be soon disclosed by the Dutch police.
